Humane Society of Tampa Bay 100th Anniversary

The Humane Society is celebrating 100 years of service to the Tampa Bay community, so we stopped in for a tour of their facilities!

  •
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay's adoption shelter is located on Armenia Avenue just south of Tampa Bay Boulevard

First impressions make the difference! Here's one of the first adoptables you see when you walk in the front door

  •
If you haven't visited in a while, the waiting room has really been opened up- many of the adoptable cats have been moved out into the lobby area.

  •
Inside are "real life" rooms where the cats can play with each other and with potential adoptive families. Here we see one cat in the "red" real life room, that houses older cats.

Here's a look at the "Blue" real life room that has some of the younger cats.

Here's an adorable adoptable up close.

We then took a walk through one of the dog kennels that houses some of the friendliest dogs you've ever met

  •
This Basset Hound was absolutely adorable- someone's going to be a very lucky family when this guy's adopted.

  •
Every dog we saw was extremely happy for the company- they can't wait to be placed in a forever home.

    So cute!

    "Adopt Me!"

  •
Out back of the kennels are some great dog interaction areas- here a Humane Society volunteer gets a little excercise with one of the dogs.

  •
Outdoor time also allows time for dogs to interact with one another.

In this photo one of the "Gold Volunteers" (those who have donated at least 500 hours of their time) spends some time with one of the dogs.

We then to a quick trip to the back of the shelter. This is an area for dogs that have been accepted to the shelter, but aren't quite ready for adoption yet.

  •
The good news is that the Humane Society is a "No Kill" shelter, meaning they will not put an adoptable animal down just because there's not enough space in the shelter.

  •
All of the dog kennels have outdoor areas so the pups can soak up some sun if they choose.

  •
This guy was really enjoying the sunny weather!

  •
And this one fell in love with us!

    Is that a chiwawa?

  •
Back near the entrance are kages of some of the younger puppies that are available for adoption.

  •
Who wouldn't love to have this guy around the house?

  •
We passed a few more cats and couldn't resist but take a photo or two

  •
This guy was a little sleepy.

One of the volunteers gives a little love to one of the adoptable kittens.

It's volunteers that make everything at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay possible.

  •
So this is really cool- the Humane Society has several areas out back where dogs can get to know one another.

This is tigger- he's just a big puppy.

If you already have a dog and are thinking about adopting another, you can bring your dog in and see how they'll get along before taking the new one home.

  •
These two obviously get along quite well!

  •
    Even toys to play with!

Going for a run with this toy!

Milano stepped up to the gazebo to pose for a few photos
