St.Pete PRIDE Parade Expects Huge Crowds

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA/AP)- Organizers of the state's largest gay pride parade expect that the event will be even larger after the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that married gay couples should have equal federal standing with all other married Americans.

Executive Director Eric Skains says 80-100,000 people usually attend the parade, but in light of this week's ruling, he expects nearly 150,000 people to attend and celebrate.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn will participate in the parade. He's the highest-ranking public official to ever attend the parade, which is in its 11th year.

The event starts Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and it runs until 4 p.m.
