St. Peterburg, Fla.-(970 WFLA)-The old inverted pyramid pier won't be around much longer. It closes for good Friday.
Merchants had sales for the final weekend, there were fireworks and a celebration. Business was good as people came by to take one last look and get one last item from The Pier.
The Pier is scheduled to be torn down in August. What goes up to replace it is still a work in progress. City leaders favor a pier design called the "Lens." Residents opposed to the "Lens" got enough petition signatures to force a public vote on the pier.
Folks who came to fish, shop or ride bikes for the final weekend say they hate to see The Pier go.
