Sarasota Police investigate officer-involved shooting

SARASOTA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Sarasota Police said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday evening around 10 p.m. on the 1000 block of 42nd Street in Sarasota; that’s near the intersection of 40th Street and Royal Palm Avenue.

Police said two Sarasota Police officers were on bicycle patrol in the neighborhood around North Water Tower Park when they encountered a man who pulled out a gun and pointed it at both officers.

Police said both officers told him to drop the weapon several times and that the individual refused and in order to defend themselves, the officers fired their duty weapons.

EMS attempted to revive him, police said but were unsuccessful and the suspect is deceased.

Police said both officers have been placed on administrative leave which is routine in an officer involved shooting.
