Police warn of smash and grab burglary, search for stolen SUV

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Winter Haven police are warning businesses of a potential smash and grab occurrence and asking for the public's help in finding a stolen SUV.

Police said a 1996 white Jeep Grand Cherokee (fl tag n648du) was reported stolen from 50 Lake Howard Dr. SW in Winter Haven Tuesday at 1:20 p.m.. Police said the owner last saw the vehicle at 7 p.m. on Monday.

There have been a number of recent smash and grab burglaries across the area where suspects steal an older model Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep product and ram the stolen vehicle into the front of a business and burglarize the structure, according to Winter Haven police.

Police said the white Grand Cherokee in the picture has distinctive yellow stickers advertising "you lube" oil change. Additional distinguishing items include a black front bumper cover and a St. Joseph's Catholic magnet, police said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this vehicle is asked to call Sgt. Don Nunnery at 863-401-2256 or Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-tips (8477) and police said callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
