Police: Tampa Family's Meat Laced With LSD

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Tampa Police are investigating a mysterious illness that hospitalized a family of four.

Police said the family started feeling sick Monday night. Police said one of the four was a woman who was nine months pregnant and had to be induced. Police said she delivered a healthy baby boy. A few days later, police said all were released in good condition.

Police said initial test results received Friday from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office determined the family consumed bottom round steak contaminated with LSD. It is still under investigation how the drug ended up in the family's meat, police said, and at this point, it is not clear if a crime has occurred.

TPD said detectives determined the family bought the meat at a Walmart located at 1501 North Dale Mabry Highway. Police said the chain has been very cooperative with the investigation and voluntarily turned over all meat of that type that was on their shelves at that time. Police said the medical examiner is currently testing that meat.

The Federal and Florida Department of Agriculture along with the Hillsborough County Health Department are investigating the case with TPD detectives.

TPD officials said they do not have any other similar cases.
