Police make arrest after homeless man found dead in park

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Winter Haven Police say officers have made an arrest in the homicide of James Stewart, the homeless man found dead in Inman Park on March 1,  2014. The medical examiner concluded that Stewart was stabbed, police said.

Police say 43-year-old Demarco Ginn has been charged with first degree murder and robbery after detectives were able to link him to the murder from blood found on a pair of jeans found inside of a duffle bag belonging to Ginn.

Police say detectives learned of Ginn's involvement following multiple interviews with witnesses who were familiar to Ginn and Stewart. According to witnesses, police say Stewart purchased a bike Feb. 28 and then the next day, Stewart was found by acquaintances deceased in the park. Police say later that day, Ginn was seen by witnesses in the area of 2nd Street and Ave. P. NW attempting to sell a bicycle matching the description of Stewart's newly obtained bike.

Police say DNA tests confirmed the jeans were those of Ginn and further testing of the stains on the jeans confirmed them to in fact be blood of the victim, James Stewart.

On Thursday March 27, police say detectives found Ginn and charged him with first degree murder in the death of James Stewart. He was booked into the Polk County Jail, according to police.
