Mulberry, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A controversial Florida based pastor, who wanted to burn almost 3000 Qurans on the 12th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, gets arrested on the way to the event Wednesday.
Pastor Terry Jones had a plan to burn one Quran each for the victims of the 9-11 attacks at a public park in Mulberry in Polk County, but on the way to the even with the Korans in tow, Jones and a man driving the truck they were in were arrested.
According to reports, Jones and the driver were arrested for transporting hazardous materials on a public roadway. The truck was hauling a trailer grill that was loaded with kerosene soaked Qurans.
Jones spent a lot of time publicizing the event, but Polk County officials denied the permit needed to hold the event at Loyce E Harp Park. Those officials say Jones filed the permit too late for the request to be properly vetted by the county.
