BARTOW, Fla. (970 WFLA)- The Polk County State Attorney says prosecutors have decided to drop felony charges against Kiera Wilmot
The 16-year-old Bartow High School student got into trouble when a plastic bottle filled with household cleaners caused a small explosion and blast off the bottle cap, but not injuring anyone on campus. Wilmot said it was part of a science project.
The straight-A student was facing felony criminal explosives charges and expulsion. She still must take part in a diversion program.
Wilmot was the subject of an online campaign protesting her arrest, even prompting former Florida governor Jeb Bush to sign an online petition supporting her.
