Man charged with attacking Pinellas Deputy and police dog

DUNEDIN, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A transient is in jail, accused of hitting a Pinellas Sheriff's deputy and burning a K-9 police dog.

Deputies were responding to a burglary in progress on Belcher Road after someone noticed a man crawling through a window.

When the guy refused to come out, deputies and a police dog entered. The suspect still refused to cooperate and hit one of the deputies, then used a lit cigarette to burn the police dog.

19-year-old Ryan James Packer is facing several charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer and battery against a police dog.
