TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - David Earl Williams' competency had been called into question, which prompted the court to have several experts examine him.
Two concluded Williams, who's charged with killing University of Tampa student Ryan McCall, was competent to stand trial. Two believed Williams is delusional or incompetent.
Friday, Hillsborough Circuit Judge Christopher Sabella determined that Willliams is mentally capable of standing trial for McCall's death.
McCall, a UT cross-country runner, and a friend were walking back to campus from a party in the middle of the night on August 19th, 2009 when they were robbed. McCall was shot and killed.
Williams was arrested two-and-a-half years later. He was already in prison serving time in an unrelated case.
