Head Of Hillsborough Animal Services Out

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Hillsborough County Animal Services Director Ian Hallett has been replaced.

Hallett had been contending with a series of controversies as head of Hillsborough Animal Services, including a couple of disease outbreaks among dogs at the shelter and several dogs which were mistakingly euthanized.  The number of cats euthanized at the county shelter had not decreased under his tensure, either.

So now, Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merill has sent a memo to county commissioners letting them know that Hallet has been reassiagned to the Parks and Rec department.

Long-time county code enforcer Dexter Barge will take over as the interim animal services director.
