Fog, arctic air mass to descend on Bay area

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Grab that jacket because a strong cold front will sweep across the area later this morning and will be followed by a very cold arctic air mass, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay area has issued a hard freeze warning which is in effect from 1 am to 9 am EST Tuesday.

Damage is possible to cold sensitive plants Monday and Tuesday night, according to the NWS, so plan to cover or bring these plants indoors and bring pets inside as well.

Motorists should slow down, use low beam headlights, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles, NWS said.

During the freeze period, NWS said temperatures may remain below 32 degrees for more than two hours.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, Monday means a 30 percent chance of showers between 9am and 1pm and the temperature will drop throughout the day finishing with a low Monday night around 34 degrees.

For the rest of the week, NWS said Tuesday it will be mostly sunny with a high near 49 degrees; Wednesday temperatures will climb back up to 66 degrees and that trend will continue into the 70’s and 80’s again Thursday and Friday.
