TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Calling the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba an "outdated policy", Kathy Castor says it's time to lift the embargo and travel restrictions to the communist island nation.
The Tampa democratic congresswoman spent four days in Cuba last week. She's back and talking about her experience.
Castor says she met with representatives of Cuban's tourism, cultural, economic and energy departments. She met with families and did a little sightseeing. Castor believes most Americans support lifting the 50-year-old trade embargo.
"The embargo should go and travel restrictions should go. I think we've got to demonstrate some acknowledgement that they are changing and encourage further change in their economic and political system."
Castor says she'll talk with the President and Secretary of State John Kerry about her request. But she admits it might be a tough sell on Capital Hill, especially because there are so many other international issues on the front burner.
