At least 15 people displaced by apartment fire in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said an early Saturday morning apartment fire left at 15 to 17 people displaced.

Firefighters said it happened around 3:00 am at 3821 River Vista Lane in Tampa.

HCFR units arrived on scene within minutes to find heavy flames showing through the roof, officials said, and a team of firefighters checked every apartment unit and searched for residents that were sleeping at the time.

Firefighters said the majority of the residents were awakened by either the smell of smoke, the sound of fire or by the firefighters forcing the doors during their search.

Of 15-17 people displaced, firefighters said four to five are children and a total of eight units are damaged.

The Red Cross is assisting, firefighters said, and no one was injured.

After a survey, HCFR officials said an investigator stated that the fire started in the attic space of the building and the cause is still under investigation.
