AMTB: Former mayor discusses SunDial landmark in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Baywalk shopping center in downtown St. Pete will be renamed to SunDial. The property is being taken over by the Edwards Group.

Another name previously considered was Shops of St. Petersburg, but former mayor of St. Petersburg Rick Baker said the name became changed to Sundial after a hollywood set designer came in and designed the center of the shopping area with a giant 28-foot working sundial, sitting in a fountain.

There will be walkways and places for shade, Baker said, and the sundial itself will be made in St. Petersburg with local contractors.

Baker said they will announce some of the names of the shops that are coming to the facility soon, many which he said were national companies.
